Aloe Vera

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice

At Good Chemistry we use organic aloe vera in many of our products and formulations.

Aloe Vera Powder is carefully processed from the inner fillet of the aloe leaf. Care is taken to minimise disruption of the Aloin layer, which is then stripped. Further processed to remove pulp and fiber, the aloe gel is pasteurised and concentrated utilising low temperature evaporation, ensuring it's suitability for skincare.

The gel is then freeze dried to produce a product without additional additives or preservatives. Freeze drying prevents the breakdown of the great majority of the long chain polysaccharides found in the fresh leaf, making this an exceptional product for cosmetic and nutraceutical applications.

Aloe vera is a versatile plant that has been used for centuries for its medicinal and skincare properties. It contains various bioactive compounds, including vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, and polysaccharides, which contribute to its numerous skincare benefits. Here's how aloe vera is commonly used in skincare:

  1. Hydration: Aloe vera is renowned for its ability to hydrate and moisturize the skin. It contains mucopolysaccharides that help bind moisture to the skin, making it an excellent ingredient for dry or dehydrated skin types.
  2. Soothing and Calming: Aloe vera has anti-inflammatory properties, making it effective in soothing and calming irritated or sunburned skin. It can help reduce redness, inflammation, and discomfort associated with various skin conditions, including eczema, psoriasis, and acne.
  3. Wound Healing: Aloe vera contains compounds like glucomannans and gibberellins that promote wound healing and skin regeneration. It accelerates the healing process by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin fibers in the skin.
  4. Anti-Aging: The antioxidant properties of aloe vera help neutralize free radicals, preventing oxidative damage to the skin and reducing the signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Regular use of aloe vera can improve skin elasticity and firmness.
  5. Acne Treatment: Aloe vera has antimicrobial properties that can help combat acne-causing bacteria, making it beneficial for acne-prone skin. It also helps reduce inflammation associated with acne lesions and promotes faster healing of blemishes.
  6. Lightening and Brightening: Aloe vera contains compounds like aloin and aloesin, which have been shown to inhibit tyrosinase activity, the enzyme responsible for melanin production. As a result, aloe vera can help lighten dark spots, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone, leading to a brighter complexion.
  7. Gentle Exfoliation: Aloe vera contains natural enzymes that gently exfoliate the skin, removing dead skin cells and promoting cell turnover. This can help improve skin texture, leaving it smoother and more radiant.
  8. Oil Control: For those with oily or combination skin, aloe vera can help regulate sebum production without stripping the skin of its natural oils. It provides lightweight hydration without clogging pores, making it suitable for use in oil-free or mattifying skincare products.

When using aloe vera in skincare, it's essential to choose products that contain high-quality, pure aloe vera gel or extract that is processed properly to ensure maximum effectiveness and stability.
